I remember when I first started out in domaining. And it was such an exciting adventure. I had registered a few domains, and not really know much about what I was doing. I bough a domain at flippa, and a couple at Sedo, and even Drop Catch/Name Bright. I can't even remember half of the trades I made back then. The atmosphere was always buzzing, and it was something I really enjoyed. I learnt WordPress, or re-learnt WordPress, as I had used it before. And I had had hosting before. The type that turns into a payment nightmare, or where you lose domains. Domain Registrars
The domain registrars I've used have changed over the years. But I now have top 5 domain registrars I prefer to use, in order of reference:
- Dynadot
- UnstoppableDomains
- Above
- Spaceship
- NameBright
Dynadot Registrar
The reason I choose these is because Dynadot offers consistent affordable pricing, and consisitent promotions. I think it's highly competitive leading pricing, and the domain features are super. You can manage or list external domain names, if you have a couple of names elsewhere. Domain management is important, and we'll talk about that later on.
Unstoppable Domains Registrar
Next of all I love UnstoppableDomains. They gave away thousands, probably millions to domainers who transfered their .coms in to UnstoppableDomains.com, in the hope of attracting serious domainers, and giving them an experience they would never forget. From trying out Web3 domains on the blockchain/NFT, to trying out the AI tools for domain suggestions, domain storefronts, web builder, lead generators, and outbound messaging tools. This level is for professional members. Unstoppable nolonger give away free transfers, and the cheaper members only pricing for .coms is capped. But club members can still save lots of money there.
Above.com Registrar
Above.com is great for those who have large or small protfolios they wish to manage & monetise. Similar to dynadot they offer consistent lower prices, and a few special offers periodically, plus they include a managing tool you can manage expiry dates, and view which domains to drop or liquidate (sell at a low price).
Spaceship Registrar
I think this is the silent one to watch for. It offers incredible aftermarket prices, AI assistant to help you manage your account & products, DNS, and direct you to the services you need. I definitely think Spaceship has a lot to offer younger domainers, or those who like to learn, and take advantage of new opportunities. The pricing is also reasonable and competitive. I found the domain manager, and external domain selling tools a little complicated as I have domains in multiple registrars. It's very modern. And your free AI assistant will give you a hand.
NameBright/Drop Catch
When you win a domain, or buy a domain over at Drop Catch, your domain is then sent to the registrar domain NameBright. These are sister sites owned by the company TurnCommerce. Users and teams can manage large, or huge domain portfolios, and share account access without sharing their billing credentials. Making this the platform and registrar of choice for large portfolio holders, investors, and brokers. While their pricing is competitive, ever so slightly higher, they also run regular promotions, and bulk buying deals.

For secure hosting my best bet or first choice would be Hostinger.com without hesitation. Next, it would be BlueHost who offer advanced fat WordPress Hosting, free scripts, and tools, and now combined AI. WPMU these guys offer dedicated hosting, security, multi-site & WordPress Management dashboard for agencies, & free plugins & themes. If you need live-streaming, podcasting, multisite, or video/downloads, WPMU hosting is for single site WordPress users. They now offer multi hosting. Basically if you own a huge WordPress website, or you want the security allerts, and a super fast WP website, you might choose these guys. Hostinger offer many more types of hosting, including Horizons AI Web Builder.

Fasthosts have a really great SEO and key word tool. And they always have domain name deals, so you can pick up a domain deal, and get cheap hosting, and try out their SEO packages. Fasthosts have designers and assistance, and they have consistent offers and deals. If gaining an audience is important, and growing your business in a timely way, this is the one to consider. Similarly, Names CO UK are in a class of their own, for UK customers mostly. Theey offer the personal touch, consultancy, lead generation, SEO, custom design, call handling/appoinments. Names CO UK offer free and discounted domain names too!
Both of these companies are highly professional and helpful. If you want to run a small business, and a simple site, web page builder, AI builder, VPS, HTML, VPS, and you want the added bonus of consultancy, someone to guide you, and grow your small business with you, then these are the experts ready to help.
Remember that special offers from companies often mean price hikes in the following year/s. But, if they help you grow, they may be worth it. Don't choose those companies for registering multiple domains, as you won't be able to afford to renew them. Use each account as it's intended, and then you won't go wrong.
Premium Domains Vs Your Domain

In terms of registrars, all these domain registrars give you a fair chance to renew your domain 29-30 days later. They also support bulk domain management. The best registrar will be the one you can use the dashboard easiest, and find their emails, and maybe build your website at the same address, or monetise domains?
If you decide to chooe Dynadot, Unstoppable, Above, Spaceship, NameBright, I would consider whats most important, Ad Bidding Revenue, or Resale/Selling? Domain flippers may choose Dynadot, or NameBright, and medium portfolio or multiple registar domain owners will perhaps choose Above.com, or Unstoppable domains. Choose above.com as your domain management tool and monetise your domains, or auction/list your domains at Dynadot, or Spaceship. Create a domain storefront at UnstoppableDomains, with the lowest 3% commissions, it's a great deal. And lastly, DropCatch/NameBright. Got a large portfolio? - Always looking for an aged domain gem, or want to get a network feature?
Chooseing a reliable hosting companies, the choice of web hosts should be based on how you will use the hosting, how often you will use it, and whats more comfortable, and which features are most important to you? Is it getting a deal? Having support to hand? Scaling your business? Having Website assistance? Having suer fast AI knowck down threats and email you in moments? Or having an easy to use dashboard?
Deciding on the service that makes you feel positive, and helps you to grow on your journey, whether that's WordPress, AI, Local SEO, App Building/Web Apps.
Choosing a domain registrar, and hosting isn't always about the money, or the difference between a dollar or two. It's about suitability, ease of use, and what makes life easier for you. If you need to select registrar & hosting, and you're based in the UK, I would assess all the info I've provided thoroughly. Many other companies claim to do a great deal, but are only interested in taking your money. All the companies I have mentioned I am partners with. But I have tried out many other hosting companies I do not recommend. Ionos are probably my least favourite on the list/off the top 5 list but they are very fast for a single website/registration. So, if you run more than one website, or you hold multiple domains, do not go for those special offer deals.
If you are launching one business, not many blogs, or domains, you can safely use the special offers. Make security, 2 factor logins, and fast/live support your priority, especially for business/databases/data. For this I would choose Names.co.uk who also offer secure backups. Hostinger support is reasonable, Bluehosts offers security tools & features, and now some AI deals (Chat GPT, Claude, Open Ai). Fasthosts has top SEO tools for less. They now offer AI emailing too.
